Requirement For Describing The Pressure Test


The main essence of performing the Pressure test is to determine the state of the pipe and ensure that it does not leak. Test pressure is conducted above the working pressure of the plastic pipe to allow the pipe to function under that pressure.


The pipes are also checked for possible leaks. The following requirements are considered:

1. The test pressure should be one and a half (1.5) times the functional pressure of the pipe with a maximum of 10 bar.

2. The test pressure should be in the range of 1.25 times and 1.5 times the working pressure at any point in the pipe.


Test Technique


1.Ensure that air is not trapped during the filling process. Try as much as possible to remove air before commencing the pressure testing.

2. Consider the position of the pressure gauge when determining the test pressure. This will help you avoid errors in reading and calculation.

3. Check the thrust blocks and the stop ends after slowly pressurizing the test section. Terminate the test immediately for repairs if you detect movement.

4. Check the joints for leaks when the pipelines reach test pressure.

5. In case of leaks, the pipeline should be depressurized for repairs before Pressure testing is carry-out again.

6. If there are no leaks, close the isolation valve that is between the pipes and the test equipment. Restore the pressure test after one hour and measure the amount of water required to do so in litres. 


Test Duration


The duration for pressure test should be 3hrs for pipes of a nominal diameter of 400mm and above, and less than 3hrs for pipe for pipes below the diameter of 400mm.
